Unimaidgist understands that schools may reopen in Nigeria when the ban on interstate travel has been lifted. This was disclosed by The Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba during the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 daily briefing in Abuja on Monday.
Recall that schools were shut down nationwide in March, following the outbreak of the novel Corona Virus and in an effort to curtail its spread in Nigeria.
The Minister also maintains that the federal government is not ready to take chances with the health of students .
He said: “As soon as those in charge of the blockade lift it because there is no way we can open our schools if teachers can’t come. We are looking at somewhere after the interstate lockdown is lifted”. “Because we will need that kind of openness for the children to move,”.
UNIMAIDGIST understands that inter-state lock down may end on 21st of June 2020 just as air travels are said to be resuming on that date. The possibility then is that if inter-state lockdown ends on 21st June then Schools may be resuming any moment from that date.
