Gov. Aminu Masari of Katsina State has confirmed the release of all the abducted students of the Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina State.
The governor gave the confirmation on Thursday in Katsina, saying the students released were 344 in number.
The governor added that the government sent vehicles to convey the children to Katsina from Zamfara.
He said that arrangements had been made for their medical treatment, adding that government did not pay any ransom for their release.
Upon arrival to Katsina, students were escorted into the state capital by security operatives. They were led to an expansive hall in the Government House where they were received by Governor Aminu Masari.
Explaning how the boys were released, “One hour ago, Nigerian soldiers and government officials that were involved in the negotiation for the release of the kidnapped schoolboys have told us that the whole school children have been released, 344 of them.
“Those involved in the negotiation include my adviser, some top military and police operatives, members of Miyetti Allah; (they) where all involved in the negotiation.”
He also said those who kidnapped the boys were not Boko Haram.“They are bandits who kidnapped the schoolboys, not Boko Haram.”
Today marks seven days since the boys were whisked away in their large numbers after their school was attacked by insurgents.
