The Management of UnimaidGist hails the resolve of the University of Maiduguri Management to continue and round up suspended first semester examination 2019/2020 amidst fears of COVID-19. We view this decision with utmost respect and acceptance bearing in mind that the Semester is already too long not also forgetting the fact that we need to stay safe too, in this regard we recommend as follows for the safety of all Unimaid Students who will be writing exam from tomorrow.
1. The Romance-like search exercise conducted by Securitymen on students upon at exam venues before they enter the exam halls should be checked (or if possible stopped) as this poses a great danger of spread of the virus. It is incontrovertible that (to the glory of God) no case of COVID-19 has been reported in Bormo but we shouldn’t forget that as a result of the ASUU strike many students had travelled to Abuja, Lagos, Kano and other place and are all coming back to continue their exams. There could be search by declaration (where there can be no contact between the searcher and the ‘searchee’. Wearing handgloves before searching is not safe either except it must be changed before searching the next person.
2. Students I.d cards should not be handled by any other person (security or invigilator).
3. Any form of contact should be minimised (if possible one student per seat)
4. Fumigation around exam venues and hostel areas.
5. A medical team should be on ground (around exam venues) for proper surveillance.
The above recommendations follows from the concerns raised by students over the fear of contacting Corona virus.
We are confident that these recommendations will be taken into consideration for the safety of all students.
