CIVIL SERVANT EMERGES NANS PRESIDENT AMID CRISIS

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has elected 4-year old Sunday Asefon a civil servant as its new President amid chaos and violence that characterised the Association’s convention held at the old parade ground, Abuja on yesterday.

Asefon, a civil servant with the Ekiti State Government, scored 155 votes in the election which was reportedly marred by violence to defeat his closest opponent, Olushola Oladoja, who scored 100 votes.
Asefon is said to be a student of Ekiti State University and will take over the leadership of the Association from Bamidele Akpan.

The election was alleged to have turned violent as about 20 members of the association who were in attendance sustained wounds from gunshots and machete after thugs alleged to be loyal to a factional coordinator of the association in Zone D (Southwest) launched  attack on the delegates.
